When I think of true elders, one word rises up: Serenity. The Leap In July, I gave myself permission to pause. And in that space, something remarkable began to stir. For decades, my work ethic was my compass. August: A Whirlwind of Creation Soon after, I moved with Hanif Wondir — a multidisciplinary artist, musician, and longtime collaborator — from our tiny 450 sq ft Sand City studio into a much larger space closer to home. Separate offices. Room to breathe. A floor below us reserved for collaborative projects whose outlines were still unknown but already alive in possibility. Within weeks, three collections were born.
This work demanded everything. The reward was more than we could have imagined. (We’re still waiting on professional footage — a reminder to always self-document — but you can glimpse a grainy photo album here.) September: The Deep Breath After the whirlwind came stillness. Teaching movement remains my foundation — private clients online and in person, immersive retreats, deep dives into proprioception and embodied anatomy. But alongside it, the artistic self is unfolding again. This December, Hanif and I will present an interactive installation at the Monterey Museum of Art for their Illuminado event. And January hints at another multi-disciplinary show under my direction — an evolution still taking shape. In Conversation Amidst this breath, I sat down with Angela Tait for Mom-Me to talk about movement, breath, and motherhood — and why every mom deserves to redefine what “having it all” really means. If you’ve ever wanted to hear the story of how pregnancy reshaped my teaching and my life, this is where I tell it. I don’t yet know the full shape of what’s to come. For a while there it probably looked like I had vanished from your inbox. I promise I wasn’t hiding — Gmail just quietly decided my emails belonged in a different corner of the internet. (And if you feel like saying hello, hit reply and let me know how you’ve been. These are intense times, and I’d love to hear how you’ve been keeping yourself steady through it all.) Back in January I sent out a newsletter with one of my usual YouTube workout links and discovered the hard way that Gmail now...
If March comes in like a lion, January feels more like a bear after hibernation… or maybe the crusty, mildly confused groundhog, blinking into the light and wondering what year it is. After the inevitably intense “end-of-year slide to the finish line,” many of us arrive here a little slower, a little creakier, and quietly eager to smooth out the internal — and sometimes external — lumps and bumps that keep us from feeling that “new year, new you” buoyancy in our step. Maybe by the time this...
My brother came down from Canada late Friday night with three young children in tow. After loading their suitcases, my two nieces and nephew slid into the back seat and the commentary started immediately. “This car is SUPER messy,” noted my six-year-old niece. “Totally,” I replied. “I’ve been doing a big art project for the past two months and haven’t had any time to clean it.” “I think the only person with a messier car than this is my Dad,” observed Zadie (with all the wisdom her twelve...
