Last weekend, I made a special trip up to San Francisco to work on a dear friend who’d recently fallen off a giant boulder onto equally rocky terrain. Four weeks post-fall, she was still struggling—every movement laced with pain and restriction. The moment I walked through her door, I noticed the change. Strain on her face. Sluggishness in her body. A bit of weight gain. Drooping features. She looked… older. The vibrant, brilliant spirit I’d met at Esalen a few years ago seemed buried beneath layers of stress, physical trauma, and exhaustion. Given her work in science and education—and the current state of things—it made sense to assume that life’s pressures had aged her. But as we worked together on the Galileo, something astonishing happened. We began unwinding the tension that had taken up residence in her right lumbar spine. We realigned her pelvis. Freed her ribs. Released her upper cervical area and balanced the tension gripping her skull. Mid-session, I saw her face change. Cheekbones lifted. Her brows softened into symmetry. Her eyes focused. “My vision just cleared,” she told me—right as I was about to say the same thing. It was like watching her spirit return home. By the next morning, she was back—bright-eyed, wiggling joyfully through the kitchen, and still glowing from the night before when she danced at a performance and an afterparty. As she rhapsodized about moving her pelvis, I found myself wondering: How much of what we call “aging” is actually just unreleased trauma? We’re taught that healing just happens over time. But the truth is: • Bodies don’t always self-correct without help. • Pain doesn’t vanish without a map. • Movement limitations, drooping features, or chronic fatigue aren’t always aging—they’re often signs your nervous system is still processing an injury that was never fully resolved. Instead of returning to full capacity, most people adjust to a “new normal.” But imagine never servicing your house—never clearing gutters, fixing leaks, or unclogging drains. Your body isn’t any different.
